Redesign Concept  —  2018

This is a redesign exercise I've made as part of a design challenge. Bird is a startup that lets customers rent dockless electric scooters (or "Birds") with the tap of an app and then leave them on the street when they're done. The business model is similar to Uber and Lyft but without a driver.

My goal was to identify problems in the mobile app experience and turn those friction points into opportunities for a frictionless and delightful product. I conducted user interviews with a few first-time users of the service and I came up with a list of potential optimizations and new features.

After going through low-fidelity sketches on paper and determining what was necessary for the exercise I decided to spend time combining UI elements and visuals into a master frame to define a design system for the app.

The initial screen has a more premium presentation and the app now allows users to interact with the map without forcing them to a sign in or sign up.

A couple of improvements were made to the map so it clearly communicates the number of birds parked at each location. Users can also filter by battery level and the amount of bikes desired.
