Design Director  —  2015 to 2018

From humble beginnings as the razor subscription start-up behind that viral video, Dollar Shave Club has evolved into an experience-driven men’s grooming brand. I joined the team in 2015 to help grow the design practice and to help improve the quality perception of the brand. We built and optimized all the necessary digital products to support the rapidly growing portfolio of personal care lines and accessories. We came up with new ways to become more consistent and efficient in our process. We expanded the business internationally. We brought the startup from Series C through acquisition. We helped our members look, feel and smell their best.

I took upon myself the challenge to find more systematic ways to guide and leverage our collective efforts. Our design language system was one of the most important parts of the puzzle. The new system gave focus and clarity for designers and engineers, it enabled our teams to build better and faster software, and it brought harmony and consistency to our ecosystem.

By getting to know our users through their purchase history and features like the Member Profile, we're able to provide a unique club experience to every member. With incredibly easy subscription management, members can adjust the shipping frequency, check order status, and add any of the 50+ grooming products to their box. We also offer members a collection of DSC-produced articles, videos, and podcasts to do for their minds what our products do for their bodies.

Photography and 3D are crucial elements of our creative strategy. Great content brings life to the experience and it helps convey the important aspects of our products and our brand. Through constant experimentation and collaboration, we were able to develop a process to create visuals that elevate our products and show them in a light that best reflects our high standards for quality.
